History

This hair care stuff all began the summer of 2011 when it was simply too hot for me to blow dry my hair. Prior to that I shampooed and conditioned at least twice a week, blow dried my hair and left it alone. I was at a thick, uneven shoulder length with a damaged nape for quite some time. My scalp was also in poor shape.

I had issues with flakes, itching and inflammation due to seborrhoeic dermatitis, as well as sensitivity to products, product buildup and excessive heat. This was the story of my scalp for years, it's oily and the more things added to it = more irritation, flakes and itching. I resorted to frequent washing to alleviate the symptoms, but with the frequent post-wash heat styling, came extremely dry hair and breakage. At some point in college (2006-2010) I began my love affair with leave-in conditioners and moisturizers to combat the dryness. During this time, I also stayed away from oils, they irritated the acne prone skin on my face and fueled breakouts. However, through all of this mess, i still maintained roughly shoulder length hair (+/- an inch). I relaxed at about 8 weeks with either gentle treatment or fabulaxer in regular strength.

Fast forward to the summer of 2011 when this routine suddenly changed. I skipped the blow drying due to the heat, and opted to twist my hair (June 6 2011).

That was my first twist-out, and about a month later on July 1, 2011, I officially started my mission to
take better care of my hair. Currently I am about 9 months into this journey and I am grazing arm pit length.
(please excuse the phone in these shots, I really should purchase a camera ;)
